Our WORSHIP SERVICE is held each SUNDAY AT 10 AM. The music is both traditional and contemporary. Many fine musicians augment our Sunday services which include hymns from long ago and from more recent as well. Each Sunday Holy Communion is celebrated and our table is open to all who believe in Jesus’ presence at the meal.

Our church prides itself on a sincere welcome to all people. Come and visit our beautiful church and be sure to stay for our wonderful fellowship time following each service.

The Rev. Donna Batchelor serves as our Minister. She preaches the Word of God for us. She teaches from the Word of God and she holds a strong commitment to the well-being of our members and friends in all of their struggles and challenges. Pastor Donna welcomes calls and enquiries (941-966-4442) about our church and will gladly meet with you for prayers and counseling.

Lutherans are part of world-wide community of believers who fondly proclaim: Word Alone! Grace Alone! And Faith Alone! We are guided by God’s Word alone; we are saved by God’s Grace alone and we live each day by Faith Alone.

If you are interested in becoming a part of our church, please call our office at 941-966-4442 Monday through Friday between 9AM and Noon. Or, stop by and see us!

I extend a big thank you to all of you for giving me the opportunity to attend the Florida Bahama Synod Assembly. Your support of Erika, Elaine, and me is greatly appreciated. Attending large assemblies is not inexpensive and your generosity gave us extra motivation to make the most of this opportunity.

As a new pastor I was required to spend time with other new pastors in order to share our challenges and learn from one another. We were pastored by experienced shepherds who were patient and kind and incredibly generous in sharing their experiences with us.

I want you to know that in many ways you all were with me at this assembly. I talked about you all the time. But I have to say because you are who you are I was often at a loss for words.

Because you all are Our Savior Lutheran Church Nokomis, I was unable to share in many discussions concerning church cultures and challenges. Some pastors shared real tales of terror concerning territorial battles among their flock. They discussed the dilemmas of dealing with congregants who feel that other congregants are not fulfilling their responsibilities, they are not pulling their weight. Some church members are giving more than others, and this is simply not fair. And they want to know what their new pastor is going to do about it.

Other pastors talked about the many problems created in a church culture made up of some givers but mostly takers. This is not a money issue rather it is the belief that some congregants do all the work but most of their flock do nothing, they just show up on Sundays and complain about what has been done.

I learned that there are lots of problems out there. And I was able to share with my colleagues that we here at Our Savior are not there. When I was asked to share a problem that I identified at my church I was able to state with full confidence that here at Our Savior we just don’t know how truly wonderfully different we are. That’s what I was able to share at the assembly and for that I am truly grateful.

So, please take a breath right now and take this moment to let the goodness and mercy and kindness of this place to rise right up to the surface of your soul and give thanks to God as you promise our God that you will keep doing what you always do, living the good news of the gospel of the son through the power of the Holy Spirit.

That’s what you do, and I am so grateful that you let me do it with you.

Introduction for The Day

A house divided against itself cannot stand. Jesus makes this observation in light of charges that he is possessed. He is possessed, not by a demon, but by the Holy Spirit. We who have received the Holy Spirit through baptism have been joined to Christ’s death and resurrection and knit together in the body of Christ. Those with whom we sing and pray this day are Jesus’ family. With them we go forth in peace to do the will of God.

Have a good week

-Augustus Lear
